Description
As a reporting Department to the Chief Financial Officer, the Comptroller’s Department is a team of dedicated professionals who ensure the accuracy of the Port Authority’s finances. As part of the Comptroller’s Department team, you will gain insight and experience surrounding the agency’s financial structure and internal control processes as well as knowledge of the operations of our various lines of business, giving you extensive opportunities for a long-term career at the Port Authority.
Responsibilities
Under the direction of the Staff Accounting Supervisor, the selected candidate's responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Works with and communicates daily with PATH timekeepers, employees, and outside representatives regarding queries about additional payments, deferred compensation, union dues, direct deposits and Federal and state tax forms.
- Responsible for weekly input of additional payments, general deductions, direct deposits and tax information into Peoplesoft system.
- Produces weekly wire transfers for New York State Deferred Compensation, PATH Federal Credit Union and the Bank Reimbursement wire to Industrial Bank.
- Supports for weekly PATH payroll process and assists with the weekly PATH GL Interface process. Responsible for monthly union dues payments to various PATH unions.
- Analyzes various PA and PATH balance sheet accounts at the end of the month and posts monthly JV entries and adjustments.
- Responsible for the preparation and reconciliation of the bi-weekly payments to TIAA-CREF for the Voluntary Defined Contribution Plan, including maintaining logs for participating employee contributions and the corresponding balance sheets. Prepares annual VDCP data on Financial Statements Note I-b for the respective fiscal year.
- Prepares the monthly Bank Reconciliation and provides monthly bank remittance to Industrial Bank and Financial Accounting & Reporting Division.
- Responsible for special projects as deemed necessary by the Manager or Supervisor that include but are not limited to: reviews retroactive back pay payments for respective PATH unions upon the settlement of respective unions’ contacts; analyzes monthly payroll labor variances and prepares for Comptroller’s Roundtable financial meeting; performs outstanding payroll checks review for PA employees; and proceed with PA/PATH Payroll Calendars on the annual basis.
Qualifications
Candidates must present the following qualifications to be considered eligible for this position:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Corporate Finance from an accredited college or university with a minimum of 1 years of relevant work experience.
- In lieu of bachelor’s degree a minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience can be accepted.
